125+ San Antonians Share Their Hopes and Ideas During Our First Input Event

Writer: Arboretum San AntonioArboretum San Antonio

Over 125 San Antonians joined Arboretum San Antonio on August 19 during two community input events held at Mission Library. Our local project planners, along with national design partner, Sasaki, led a successful event asking for ideas and input on what our city’s and South Texas’ first arboretum should be.

The event included a presentation on what an arboretum is and findings from the initial site fieldwork - revealing current conditions, trees, and plants featured today on the site. Guests were then able to interact with project planners, landscape architects, architects, designers, and engineers responsible for the foundational plan.

We had four stations that featured how the arboretum is connected to the Community, what the Land is like, what kinds of plants and animals are found in the arboretum’s Environment, and how the Arboretum is connected to Water with Salado Creek. At each station, guests shared their ideas to help our planning team decide what kinds of programming, activities, and amenities the Arboretum should consider.

We are not yet open to the public and are currently engaged in a year-long master planning and community input process through mid-2025 to design and develop a plan for Arboretum San Antonio.
